John Johnson’s experience as a Trustee in Franklin Park, serving since 1999, is invaluable
as Illinois municipalities face uncertain times. John serves as Finance Chairman and is proud
of the remarkable progress Mayor Pedersen’s administration has made stabilizing the
Village’s finances and balancing the budget. John also Chairs the Events Committee where
he oversees the Village’s annual Veteran’s Day and Memorial Day Observances as well
as the annual Railroad Daze Festival.
John is the owner and operator of C. Johnson Signs, a family-owned business that has been
based in Franklin Park since 1943 and is proud that over the years, he has employed more than
80 local residents.
As a business owner, John has the pulse of the business community and a keen understanding
of the issues critical to their growth and stability. He recognizes that while the Village has
seen strong growth in the business sector over the past four years, we must continue the
progress and complete the revitalization of our industrial districts and bring 21st
century jobs and investment to our community. As Trustee, John is pleased to have been able to
work with Mayor Pedersen to take full advantage of the benefits that being a neighbor of
O’Hare International Airport offers. Together, they believe that businesses will help
relieve the homeowners’ tax burden and make us a desirable residential and business location.
John knows that the foundation of a community is built by our senior citizens and that they
benefit greatly when we work to reduce our Village debt and to lessen their tax burden. As a
Village Trustee, he takes pride in the fact that the Pedersen administration has taken tremendous
steps in putting Franklin Park back on solid financial footing. He is looking forward to continuing
to apply his years of business experience to the budgeting process to maintain the balance between
reducing costs and maintaining high quality services.
John is honored to have had the privilege to serve his country as a proud member of the United
States Coast Guard. He is now active in the U. S. Coast Guard Auxiliary and has held elected and
appointed positions at the local and national levels. He has been awarded Meritorious Awards for
his work by this volunteer organization. Additionally, John has been a member of the American
Legion for 35 years, currently a member of Post 0974.
John is a member of the Chamber by O’Hare and serves on the Board of the Finnish American
Chamber of Commerce and The Crossings at Franklin Station Condominium Association.
He believes in the tradition of volunteer service and that it brings us closer together as
families, as neighbors, and as a nation. He and his wife Carol have contributed thousands of hours
to the Coast Guard Academy in directly supporting their admissions recruiting programs for
interested high school students.
John has been married to Carol for 46 years. She is a retired teacher from School District 54
in Schaumburg/Hoffman Estates. As a life-long resident of Franklin Park and a proud graduate of
its public schools, John and Carol chose Franklin Park as the place to live because they believe
in the values that keep a community strong including safe streets, good schools and a small town
atmosphere.
